Cheering at MSU has meant everything to me. I honestly could not see myself not doing cheer here after I’ve been doing it for so long. It has become a part of me, and I would not give it up if I did not absolutely have to. It is a great feeling to be out on the football field and basketball court with the rest of my teammates, cheering for some of the greatest college sports teams in the nation. I am honored to have the opportunity to do this every time I step foot on a court or a field. This also carries over to events that we do. I really enjoy being able to see young ones and people that do not even know anything about cheerleading smile because we are at an event that they have chosen to spend their time at. Being a cheerleader means we can interact with fans more than players can, and I feel like we are an important ambassador between fans and players for the university. MSU traditions are very important to me. For instance, the fight song. I know it is hard, but I am glad we have a difficult fight song and enjoy getting to perform it in front of fans. I love our traditions of singing the Alma Mater at football games and running the flags out. Tradition to me means something that will never die in spirit, even if it is no longer carried out. Traditions will always thrive in alumni and will be passed down from generation to generation. It is a great feeling knowing that cheerleaders from years ago and myself share so many of the same memories and experiences, and when I come back for homecoming after I graduate, it will be fun to see old traditions and the new traditions that our fans and athletes have started. People will always remember and cherish MSU traditions. The most memorable experience I have ever had while being a cheerleader at MSU was when I got to travel to the Final Four in Indianapolis last year. It was an absolutely amazing feeling that I got right when I got off the bus. I was so glad that we had so many fans there and so many other people excited about being in Indianapolis for the Final Four. Our basketball team speaks for itself in how great it is, and I was so proud to be a Spartan at that moment. Even though we lost against Butler, getting to be in that atmosphere in Indianapolis and at the game will always be in my heart forever. Lucas Oil Stadium will have a lasting effect on me. It is the largest place that I have ever cheered, and was filled with the most amount of people I’ve seen at a single game. I could not even describe the feeling I got when the ball was first tipped off and the game was underway. It was truly a Cinderella Story the way we got there, from knocking off previous teams like Maryland, Northern Iowa, and Tennessee. I am so glad that I was able to travel to this and will never forget it. GO GREEN! |
